Hi, I’m Wendy.
Growing up in the coastal region of Peru, I was surrounded by a family of artists. My grandmother and mother are incredible seamstress, and my grandma is also a painter who is still taking art classes in her 90s! I also developed a deep appreciation for nature – and it continues to be the most powerful inspiration for my work.
My professional art journey began unexpectedly.
After graduating from high school, I moved to the United States, went to college, got married, and had a family. I was always doing something creative – whether taking classes or making art with my kids (which I still do with my grown daughters.) But I had no aspirations to turn it into a career.
The pandemic changed everything. During the long months of lockdown, I did a lot of knitting, crocheting, and drawing. Searching online for new creative outlets, I came across an artist who was manipulating acrylic paint in interesting ways. Then I fell in love with resin – a clear, plastic-like medium that allowed me to play with pigments and create unique textures and visual effects. The unpredictability was part of the excitement – I could work on six pieces at once and each one would be different. In 2021, I decided it was time to share what I was making and had my first show. I went on to exhibit and sell my work at arts and crafts fairs and festivals throughout Northern New Jersey, including Ridgewood, Hoboken, and Jersey City, and over time, some of my artwork has found homes as far away as England, Canada, and Colombia
My process is always evolving.
When I encounter new places or unfamiliar landscapes, I experience a deep, emotional shift. Each location has its own pulse. My art is my attempt to capture the feelings those places stir within me – and to transport you to a place of emotional resonance.
While my love of nature is a driving force in my life, my creative process is always evolving. After years of working with resin, I was drawn to materials that are more closely aligned with the natural world. Acrylic paint – my medium of choice these days – offers me the freedom to continue to experiment with color, layering, and texture. It is perfect for expressing not just what mountains, flowers, or birds look like – but how a place feels.
My art has been featured in juried shows hosted by the Ridgewood Art Foundation and the Wayne Art Center in Pennsylvania. I am also proud to have received a Certificate of Commendation from the Bergen County Board of Commissioners for being a participating artist representing Peru in Club Colombia USA of Hackensack’s 2025 "BioDiversity" Latin American Art Exhibition.
